“How can you not fall in love with Posie, the adorably penguin featured in this lovely children’s book written by David Pettit. Harrison, (my three and a half year old grandson), said after the first few pages at the beginning of the book, “but Posie has such a sad face” and this is indeed so. By the end of the book however, he was really smiling as he noted her sad face had turned to a big happy smiley face. Like many of us who may think we are unhappy with our lot and feel that life may be better elsewhere, the author reveals to us through Posie’s travels that despite hardships at home, going elsewhere may not necessarily make us feel happy. Indeed we need to recognise that happiness comes from within us, and no matter where we are we can be happy.
This is a delightful, beautifully illustrated book which adults will love reading to little ones, for they too will relate to the adventures of Posie. I expect that I for one will in the future remember Posie often as I remind my grandchildren that we can do something about feeling sad, by recognising that we can turn our thoughts around and find inner happiness wherever we are.
