THE NON FLUFF EMOTIONAL STUFF™
Christmas comes wrapped in expectations — some joyful, some heavy, and some we never even chose. From picture-perfect traditions to family dynamics to the pressure of buying all the things, it’s easy to feel like you're falling short before you’ve even begun.
But here’s the truth we often forget:
You’re allowed to create a Christmas that actually works for you.
One that honours your energy, your values, and your emotional wellbeing.
This season doesn’t have to be about pushing through.
It can be about tuning in.
Let’s explore how to rewrite the expectations that weigh you down — and create space for what actually matters.
Just because something has always been done a certain way doesn’t mean it still supports you.
Ask yourself:
Does this tradition bring me joy — or stress?
Do I do this because I want to, or because I feel I should?
If I could redesign Christmas from scratch, would I keep this?
Permission granted to update, reinvent, or lovingly release anything that no longer fits who you are.
This is your life — your chapter — your Christmas.
The pressure for “more” shows up everywhere at Christmas:
More gifts. More events. More money spent. More plates filled. More expectations to meet.
But more doesn’t equal meaningful.
Try asking:
👉 What would “enough” look like for me this year? Where can I simplify without losing the heart of Christmas?
👉 Where can I simplify without losing the heart of Christmas?
When you define what enough means to you, you reclaim your season — and your sanity.
Instead of letting external expectations drive your December, anchor into your values.
Maybe you value:
✨ Connection
✨ Calm
✨ Simplicity
✨ Laughter
✨ Rest
✨ Time in nature
✨ Creativity
✨ Presence with family
Choose your top two or three and let them become your guiding lights.
When a decision comes up, ask: “Does this align with my values?”
If not — it’s a gentle “no, thank you.”
Christmas can stir up emotions — joy, nostalgia, grief, anxiety, excitement, overwhelm… sometimes all at once.
Please remember: You don’t need to be “on” the whole season. You don’t have to match everyone else’s mood. You don’t need to hide your feelings to keep the peace.
Your emotions deserve space too.
Allow yourself:
A quiet moment
A deep breath
A walk outside
A cry if you need it
A reset when things feel big
Humanness is welcome here.
Instead of forcing the season into perfection, choose memories that matter.
Maybe it’s:
A slow morning with coffee and carols
A sunset beach walk
Baking something you love (even if it’s from a packet!)
A family board game
A nap
A handwritten note
Watching your favourite cheesy Christmas movie
Little things often become the big things.
Think of your future self and ask: “What do I want her/him to thank me for?”
Then go do more of that.
Christmas doesn’t have to be heavy. It doesn’t have to be exhausting. And it doesn’t have to meet anyone’s expectations but your own.
You’re allowed to rewrite the rules.
You’re allowed to soften the pressure.
You’re allowed to create space for the moments that fill you up — and let the rest fall away.
This season, I hope you choose what matters most to you… and let that be more than enough.
It’s never too late for a lane change. Insite Mind is the brainchild of one woman who after a decade spinning in the hamster wheel of the accounting world gave it up to live out her heart work. But it didn’t come without challenge and a little nudge from the universe in the form of a book Dealing with Difficult People. Upon opening it Alisa was surprised to find in black and white text “maybe it’s you”. So after several ego deaths and many personal development books along the way Alisa Pettit found her way to coaching. Now a fully fledged positive mindset coach and personal mastery guru Ali’s work helps people find their way through mindset teachings.
